[HAAAAA] Weird, I know.

Hope everyone had a wonderfully delicious Thanksgiving and an injury free black friday shopping frenzy! Turkey leftovers for another week? I think so...

As I wandered into my cousin's room yesterday in search of cold meds, he chucked something at me (which I so gracefully missed). It rolled off my arm to the floor. Just some black plushie blob. As I pick it up, he tells me "You just got HIV." o_O So I looked up this nonsense.

Random but OH-SO-CUTE! GiantMicrobes

I know it's pretty useless to get stuffed animals and such now that we've all matured so wonderfully, but turns out if you buy HIVs or HCV they donate!!! Do it. Tis the season. Besides... they're damn cute.

I'm done being nonsensical. Here's some Hall & Oates to make you SMILE. Only since I fancied this movie so.. and the dance is just SO endearing :)

GERMANY'S ROBIN HOOD...A 62 YEAR OLD BANKER???

Dubbed the 'Robin Hood Banker', A 62-year-old German woman transfered more than 11 Million dollars from richer people's accounts to poor people's accounts. And get this, she kept not a dime for herself. She allowed overdrafts for those who wouldnt normally be allowed to have any, and then hid those overdrafts by transfering money from richer accounts whenever the bank's monthly audits came around. Gangster. Sadly she got caught and is now facing a 22-month suspended prison sentence. The court, however, went easy on her because she confessed immediatly upon investigation and didn't personally profit from the whole ordeal. Plus I mean c'mon..she's 62! I feel as though some things deserve leniency when you're old. She has been ordered to pay back a portion of the bank's loss though. There goes her retirement pention I guess. People, if you're going to steal, DON'T GET CAUGHT!!!

*Both the bank and the German woman have so far been unidentified.

[FACTOID] I will in the future super-glue those drug store thick ass senior citizen sunglasses unto the face of my daughter(s). Boyfriend shmoyfriend; You're ass is studying and turtle-necking it 'till marriage!!!

[MUSICK] MUSIC BLENDER: Audio candy -YUM YUM YUM!!!

Rocky: I heard a song from these guys from some random Indie mixtape I downloaded (I know, I know, bad Rocky). Something about their music appeals to my inner white-boy..lol. Check it out. FILLIGAR's "The Observatory." Great music!

Onward to the Hip Hop realm. Black Milk has been around for a good minute, but haven't really reached the commercial success he seems to be half-foot-edly striving for. Why should you care? His delivery is pretty clean, he makes his own beats (Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, and Electronic blend: #&@%in' fantastic!!), and he's got Detroit heavy hitters like Royce backing him. BLACK MILK's "Overdose"...Beat is FIIIIREEE!!!!

Oldiiee!!! What can I even say about Jimi Hendrix? Nothing you haven't heard before. Here's "Crosstown Traffic". Somehow, I can see RJD2 remixing this.

What kind of African would I be if i didn't include reggae in this music blender's mix. It was either this or Sean Paul & Estelle's "Come Over". Mr Serani has an incredible voice and his music touches the soul. Don't believe me? Just keep your eyes on the ladies when this is played on the dancefloor. I really like this joint: "No games" by Serani.

AND SPEAKING OF MUSIC-BLENDING!!! U2 and Jay-z recently performed together in Berlin for what I guess is the "Sunday Bloody Sunday" remix. Mister "Z" emerges about 3 minutes in. Check it out:

Before I get too carried away, let's end this installment here. Peace and Love.

[KIXX] AS GREEN AS THEY ARE FLYY!!!: U ROADS

Rocky: Where should I start? Anyone who know anything about shoes know that the Italians are revered for their exceptionally constructed hand-made foot-gloves. What happens when you take that concept and stich it together with respect for the environment? A beautiful idea, and noteworthy shoes happens!!! A far as I know, U ROADS is the only shoe company with an actual certificate from the United Nations Environment Programme. When fashion meets green, Rocky meets excitement.

THE DEAL: Handmade in both Italy and Spain, U ROADS shoes are made from canvas, leather, and recycled TYRES. Shapes, cutting, stitching, soles and washing of the leather (softened via special washing for additional comfort) are all executed with the Italian handcraft tradition in mind. Style is kept simple; The material is the focus here.

A lil something for the femmes; fashionistas only please..hahah.

I personally believe any firm making past a certain amount of profit should donate 10% -minimum- to a cause of their choosing. Or at least incorporate recycled material in production whenever posssible and practical. However, most businesses will seldom venture outside of what's in immediate consumer-demand. And because of that, I tip my hat to those at U ROADS for being proactive, not only in fashion but morally as well! Kudos!!!!

[PONDERING] ... love?

My father likes to make me do things that create a deeply rooted feeling of misery. His current means of instilling dread in me is by forcing me to read self help books (shows you just how much he loves the young lady I've become). I fought, and fought, and fought, but he won. To avoid the incessant nagging and badgering, I've been shoving my nose into these darn things for the last several months whenever he gets within a certain range of my bedroom door.

--Does anyone else agree with me when I say that the whole genre of "self help" books are bs? It's not really self help if you're reading someone else's advice and using that to mend your problems, is it? Even if it is meant to inspire one to be proactive in fixing one's problems, it's still depending on someone else to start the process...right? I think I stopped making sense there somewhere.

I digress...

The current book-from-hell is "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey. I have to admit, though, this is the first one that I'm reading where I actually think this guy isn't a complete idiot. I actually agree with him here and there. I just finished a chapter that said something about love that threw me off a little.

"In the great literature of all progressive societies, love is a verb. Reactive people make it a feeling. They're driven by feelings. Hollywood has generally scripted us to believe that we are responsible, that's we are a product of our feelings. But the Hollywood script does not describe the reality. If our feelings control our actions, it is because we have abdicated our responsibility and empowered them to do so.

Proactive people make love a verb. Love is something you do: the sacrifices you make, the giving of self, like a mother bringing a newborn into the world. If you want to study love, study those who sacrifice for others, even for people who offend or do not love in return."

True? False? I'm not sure if I'm sold, but it was strange to think of love as a verb instead of a noun (and no, not like that "oh, baby let's make love" kind of way). I think I was one of those people who always thought it just happens. That you get lucky and you just click. It's actually reassuring to think of it as something you can create and nourish. Something to choose to do instead of just falling into it. Perhaps I won't be lonely and single at the overly ripe age of 40. I'll make love happen dammit.

And on a completely random note. IF YOU ARE NOT WATCHING GLEE, START NOW. It's my guilty pleasure. Hulu every thursday morning. Just do it. I got distracted writing this entry about 67325483 times because I was frolicking about in my room dancing and singing. Maybe I do need help...

Amber Rose >>A Girl After My Own Heart<<

Soooo....I have a girl crush on Amber Rose. She's beautiful but she won me over with this interview. We got the same thoughts minus the lady-on-lady, lesbian, bi-sexual acivities, haha. Seems like a cool chick. Honestly I didn't expect her to have such a down to earth persona.

[FASHION] WHEN THE OLD BECOMES COOL AGAIN, IT GETS A NICKNAME...

..VINTAGE!!!

Rocky: Corduroys are back. At least to us Urbanites, I'm sure it's been ever so present in the world outside of mine. As always in fashion, the old becomes rare, or forgotten, and therefore gain value and demand. I remember Christmas back when in my middle school days -I got nothing but corduroys. Black, brown, tan, and of course the infamous Booger green!! You name it, i had it. SMH.
Well, winter's here and they're back, among with anything suede, heavy plaid, and norwegian.

I did a some digging in my bookmarks and found one particular site that seems to have a pretty good sense of things coming. Street Etiquette. Check them out and show some love. Specially if you're a tall and lanky individual. Here are some things they're currently showcasing:

:/ I'm not really feelin' those shoes in the last picture there but sweater's hot. Plus it looks like it'll literally make you hot. Is that wool? **Cough** Winter SUCKS!! **Cough Cough**...[FACTOID] I really miss California.

[ART] STREET ART FROM AROUND THE GLOBE.

Rocky: Ladies and gents. I love street art. A LOT. Brings me pleasure to give you guys another round of illegal manifestation of some of the most creative imaginations from around the globe: FEAST!

As always, click to enlarge.

JORGE RODRIGUEZ GERADA(Slovenia): The girl is a coffee shop employee of an establishment Gerada frequents. Don't you love the random?

LAURA KEEBLE: 'Without Consent' (I thought this was pretty clever).
Date: 28th October 2009 6.30am.
Place: Versace, Sloane Street, London.

IN HER OWN WORDS:
"The installation of Medusa outside the Versace store was to discuss the ownership of Medusa by the fashion house. A relationship between the single Versace mannequin within the store shopfront and Medusa also reflected the acceptance of what is beautiful and the outcasting of what is deemed ugly, by those that consider themselves an authority.

Medusa with her shopping bags turned to stone by the very horror that is herself reflected in the use and ownership of an ancient icon to sell goods."

**LAST BUT NOT LEAST (and not so illegal, but we love her anyways):

CHLOE EARLY: These are part of her solo show 'Clouded Apollo'. If you happen to be in London before the end of nextweek (I wish), stop by the "Stolenspace Gallery". Cheers.

I can do this ALL DAY. But won't, because then I won't have much of a life -or money! Peacers. Will post more when I get all insomniac-like.

***EDIT

Ok, Ok! ONE MORE for the road:

RENE GAGNON: "...it's all about altering the outside world no matter how subtle"

[WORDS] LEAVING OF AGE

Leaving of Age

There you are, Blank,
‘till flood gates crack, and infancy dies
Then your elders infect you
Each leaving you the first letter of their signatures,
to make up the sentences you’ll serve while locked inside the body
life isn’t a jungle, it’s a game
You’re given the pieces to play with
Here the rules, though made for you, are made with your parents in mind,
Here, men are told to cry only when underwater,
And women, to seek men who don’t swim
Love happens here, lust happens near,
and regret happens closest
But we bear and grin it, even when there’s barely a grin,
Scared half to life for an idea’s survival, rather than a bond’s,
“Suck it up,” they say,
Then tell you to think of your future children
“After all, you are an adult....Aren’t you?”

Yes. F.A.M.B. NATION has been music heavy lately, but I loves it!!!

[DEDICATION] Hail to the King

Need I say more?

Only because I'm finally going to see the movie tomorrow :) Yes, I do realize it's been out nearly a week.

A little birdie told me that this is supposed to be a tremendously inspirational film. Despite the obvious fact that I'm no performer, I do intend to make copious amounts of mental notes about this man. An epic icon of our time. He defined new boundaries for music, dance, and fashion. I'm certainly not a fan of the glittery glove and the uncontrollable groin thrusting, per se, but it was still undeniably different and unique. It's why we shall remember him forever.

I suppose I'll do a follow up edit of what I thought of the movie and harass you all until you give in to see it. I expect it will be quite good.

RIP MJ.

****edit

Just got home from the movie (and a little bit of boozing ;P)

Incredible artist. I'm sick of hearing about how some people are saying that they'd never go see it because he "really isn't that important"...
Hey, morons. You know his music, don't you? And you know what the moonwalk is? There's no denying that he influenced so many genres of art, therefore making him an icon of monumental proportions. He made mistakes, but it doesn't change the fact that he was a true artist.

A particular detail that I loved about it was his passion about the show. He spent an obscene amount of money on his concerts because everything he did was to give his audience/fans an unforgettable experience. Everything was focused on his supporters. Some artists really lose that passion when the paychecks start rolling in. They lose their focus.

It's only out for another week and a half, I believe. I strongly suggest people watch it! Whether you're a true fan of the "king of pop" or not, it was inspirational to see someone who was truly passionate about what he did. Not to mention the fact that he used his music for what art was always intended for. It looked pretty, but like Banksy, He always had a message, and he passed it through a medium that is more prevalent and influential than just a billboard or magazine ad. It really doesn't hit you until the end of the film that he's actually gone. [sobsob].

Watch it. Go now.

And on that note...I think I'll go practice my moonwalk and scrounge around the internet for shimmering, glitzy-glam trousers, or iridescent, partially see-through button downs. HEEEEEH.

Turn yourspeakers up. No cheap headphones aloud!!!:
Song title: A/B Machines
Artist: Sleigh Bells

While rummaging through Audiocandy+ I stumbled on the duo. Glad I found 'em. I really like their rock-pop melody and hip hop drum blend. Works for me. The distortion was at first a bit distracting, but the BASE won me over. Feast your ears pilgrim!!!

[TIME] WATCH THESE!!! (Middle school joke..if you don't get it, dont's ask)

What do you get when you mate bangles with a wrist watch? Your mother!! J/k you get THESE!!! Translucent Pixel Watches by ODM. Though proclaimed as unisex, I rather see these on the women more so than the menasoids. But hey, who am I to judge?

THERE ARE ONLY THREE WATCHES IN THIS PIC: Yellow, blue, red.

The white polycarbonate trumps the others don't you think?:

“Original, Dynamic & Minimalist" is what they claim to be. But ODM, since its establishment in Tokyo sometime in 1999 has always ventured wayyy outside of the box. That third description doesn't always apply, and that's a good thing!
Subdivided into three brands, O.D.M. is sure to have something that interest you. Here they are in explained in their own words:

[ODM] is funky, futuristic and trendy and is targeted to the young and fashionable who are fond of new and bold designs.
[O.D.M. original] puts a modern twist on the classic watch and is targeted to young professionals who want to wear something classy, yet unexpected.
[ODM+] is our line of odm watches in collaboration with partners such as Coca-Cola, Looney Tunes, Batman, Jon Burgerman (British artist), Michael Young (British designer) among others.

[WORDS] KANYE, IT WAS ALWAYS ABOUT YOUR MUSIC.

A few weeks ago, me and a friend were talking life over yuka and Crisp & Juicy. Let me set the picture for you: Outdoor seating, clouds were shy but the sun was smiling, and the air carried a breeze about as cool the other side of the pillow on a water bed. Niiice. Now I'm not sure what led to it, but somewhere between garlic sauce dipping and finger licking, the concept of being "real" became discussion. "Most people bore and depress me because they aren't real" is what I said. From there, we argued back and forth over the true meaning of the term. Eating food and chewing thoughts untill our bellies filled and our patience grew fed up with one another. And as always, the conversation went nowhere and we sat sneering at each other -disgusted of each other's stubborness and dissapointed in our selves' inability to persuade the other. Yes, one of those types of friendships. So as our poultry laden verbal exchange drew to a close, a middle aged woman, in apron and on nicotine, walked up to our table and complimented my friend on her handbag. The purse was Burberry. One of those obnoxiously printed bags that are otherwise no more better than say an "Aldo" bag if it weren't for the infamous Burberry print.

"I wanted to get one just like it!" she says. "It's soo beautifull!!!

This was really funny to me at the time because the broad really did come out of nowhere! On some ninja status type of ish. [Wataahh!!] My beef with this though (last food reference -I promise!) isn't with the bag being Burberry. The tone behind her words got me thinking. It's the way the woman said what she said that irked me. This lady didn't want the bag because it was actually that beautiful. She wanted it because, to her, it would mean to be something more than "just a waitress". It would mean to be like those people she would regulalry see with designer product: Confident in their step and seemingly content with life. Apron-less. The greener grass. The happier category.

Trouble is we as people often mistake things like happyness, confidence, and true security, all things inner, with the outside -the material. When we can't concretely define the abstract thing we desire, we seek out the material objects we associate with it. People hide behind various fronts to aquire happyness, or at least some resemblence of it. At the end of the day, and after clock-out, it all comes down to one thing though: PURPOSE!!!

Human beings CANNOT function properly without PURPOSE. Those who have NO purpose either commit suicide, succumb to chemical dependency, naiively devote their body and soul to some other selfishly leech-like individual (I'm looking at you dead-beat dads), spend the rest of their days seeking purpose, or adapt by hiding behind all sorts of superficialities. Fragile is the ego's belly, but swift is it's relentlesness to self-preserve; driving us to treat it with the nearest sacharin. That's all these things we hide behind are for: temporary happyness. Sugar highs! The women we men hide behind and objectify, the "locker-room" talks we share like trophies, the watches we buy, the fights we masculinize ourselves through, the creatine we chug, the sex women offer in subsitute of personal value, the color contacts, the billboard sized logo on the clothes we wear: all UNSUBSTANTIAL fill-ins for the deeper void we avoid to properly address!!!..Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a little ego-boost. Unless it's at the expense of some poor sap. But a boost is exactly that! Just a boost. It is not fulfillment.

Most things occuring in the world today comes back to our natural human condition to gain or maintain an identity. And to have an identity is to have......what else but purpose! [I think you're getting the theme of the song by now riiight?? lol]. The two go hand-in-hand. This notion spans beyond individuals though. This applies to collectives as well. It is just how the world workssss. Nothing, be it negative or positive, can thrive and flourish without purpose. From Al-Qaeda, to Red Cross. From The NAACP to the KKK. Your current president is in the process of establishing a more effective, if not friendlier, identity for the U.S. amongst the international community. That is his purpose. One of them. These are all results of people finding a purpose and running with it. What you choose to do with that resolve gained in having direction, however, is completely up to you. You can either help build something or take away from something. The in-betweeners will be forever forgotten.

Can i tell you that I love it when I step into a pair of beautiful new kicks? I LOVE shoes. They keep my feet safe, comfortable, and looking damn goood on the way to where I gotta go!!! A huge part of that happyness, though, comes from knowing that it's not because I haven't anything more substantial to be proud of. I love shoes but I love loving them for the right reasons even more! I KNOW what I want from life. I know that there is a difference between egotism and self-love. I know what I love and what I would like to do in life. I hope YOU do as well. It's never about how long you live, it's about what you do with the time you're given. You've heard that right? Though cliche as hell, that saying is sooo true! It was never about your Jordans or your Louis Vuitton bags. It always has and always will be about purpose and how the fullfillment of that purpose affected those around you.

Rant over.

Peace & Love.
-Rocky
